- 1 cup whole milk well chilled (Consider using organic milk for a richer taste)
- ¾ cup granulated sugar
- 2 cups heavy cream also well chilled
- 1.5-2 tsp peppermint extract adjust based on how minty you like it
- 4 oz semi-sweet chocolate bar chopped into tiny pieces (or substitute with dark chocolate chips for a deeper flavor)
In a mixing bowl, whisk together the milk and sugar until the sugar is completely dissolved.
Stir in the heavy cream and peppermint extract until well combined.
Set up your ice cream maker and pour the mixture into the machine. Churn according to the manufacturer's instructions, usually about 25 minutes.
During the last 5 minutes of churning, add the chopped chocolate slowly, ensuring it distributes evenly throughout the ice cream.
Once churning is complete, transfer the ice cream to an airtight container and freeze for at least 2-3 hours to firm up.
For a touch of whimsy, add a few drops of green food coloring to the mixture before churning. It's totally optional but can make serving this treat to kids or at parties a bit more magical. Also, if you're not a fan of peppermint, feel free to experiment with vanilla extract for a subtly sweet version.
